On 27 September 2019, Maldives ratified the UNCRC Third Optional Protocol on a Communications procedure! It is the 46th country to have ratified the OPIC, the first in South Asia and the third in Asia more generally, to become a State party to the instrument.

The OPIC will enter into force in Maldives three months after its ratification date, allowing at least 102,000* children to have access to this instrument, if violations about their rights cannot be addressed effectively at national level.
